10 Books That Will Always Be On My Bookshelf

Since I just wrote about getting rid off stuff and not keeping any books, cds or dvds that we can get via our library or Netflix, I wanted to share with you books that I will (probably) always have on my shelf to read again and again.

1. Spirit-Controlled Temperament by Tim LaHaye : : I first read this book in high school and loved it. Learning about the different personality types; Sanguine, Choleric, Melancholy & Phlegmatic is so interesting! It has also really helped me understand myself and others better!

2. Men Are Like Waffles, Women Are Like Spaghetti by Bill & Pam Farrel : : The best marriage book we have ever read to date. Yup - my husband likes it too. It has really helped us to understand each other so much better! I've already written about this book, but basically it is a very easy read and perfectly describes in simple terms the differences between men and women.

3. For Women Only: What You Need to Know About the Inner Lives of Men by Shaunti Feldhahn : : This is the second best (or a tie, maybe?) marriage/relationship book I've read. It's an even easier read than Waffles and again, is spot on when it comes to describing the way men think and why they do what they do!

4. Grace Based Parenting by Dr. Tim Kimmel : : While there isn't a lot of practical parenting advice in this book (especially for toddlers), it still left a big impression on me. Basically, Kimmel encourages you to parent your child the way God parents you - with A LOT of grace. Newby & Newby give it Four Stars. (I don't actually own this yet, so if anyone wants to buy it for me, please feel free. Thanks in advance.)

5. The Princess Bride by William Goldmen : : If you love the movie (who doesn't?) then you'll love, love, love the book. Period. My wonderful husband bought this for me as a birthday present several years ago. He's the best present-buyer ever. :)

6. My Hearts at Home by Jill Savage : : After my friend, Amy, lent this to me I 1) felt compelled to take my job as Mama way more seriously and enjoy every minute of it and 2) told  myself to read it once a year so I wouldn't forget what I had learned!

7. Created to be His Helpmeet by Debi Pearl : : This book is a little controversial. *gasp!* While I don't agree with everything it has to say, every time I read it (3 times so far) I end up feeling very, very thankful for my husband and have more of a servant's heart. Which reminds me, I should probably shoot for the fourth time here soon! HA!

8. Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers : : I know I'm sort of out of the loop on this one because I just recently read it for the first time. It left a HUGE impression on me of how much Jesus loves us!! I bought it (swapped it, actually) right after I finished it! This might be my favorite book of fiction. Ever.

9. The Case for Christianity by C.S. Lewis : : C.S. Lewis is my hero. He is the most logical, well-spoken and intelligent author I have ever read. In my opinion, everyone on the planet should read this book. Christians, to get a better understanding of their faith and non-Christians, to get a better understanding of well, Christianity. ;)

10. The Bible. 'Nuff said. :) (As a side note, I've been thinking of getting The Message, mostly because I started reading the Old Testament last year (for the UMPTEENTH time) and can never get through it. I was thinking The Message would make it more "readable"?? Anyone have any thought on this?
