Top Ten Items We Never Pay Full Price For

Last week, I posted the Top Ten Things We Splurge On.

I thought it would be apropos (I've always wanted to use that word) to post the... *drum roll, please*

Top Ten Items We Never/Rarely Pay Full Price For:

1. Cars. We bought a new/used car a few years back that came with a mah-velous monthly payment, dahling. Never. Again.
2. Most of our grocery items. Last week, I mentioned a few foods that we do pay extra for, but that's about it. We are usually not brand loyal when it comes to groceries. We eat what is cheap mixed with what tastes good and is healthy. :)
3. Clothes. We NEVER pay full price for clothes. Ever. With all of the second hand stores, clearance racks and sales, there's absolutely no reason to pay full price. I don't think we sacrifice looking nice for it, either. :)
4. Furniture. Well, mostly. We usually look on Freecycle, craigslist, or at second hand stores before shopping at furniture stores. If we can't find what we like at a big discount, then we'll pay (hopefully) a sale price.
5. DVD's, CD's & Video Games. We just recently joined a wonderful website, swaptree.com!! It's free to join. You trade music, books, dvd's and vids and you only pay shipping. I've not had to pay over $2 and we've traded almost 20 items so far! LOVE IT! If we can't do it this way, we always shop at discount media stores.
6. Books. I mostly get books from our library but if I really want to buy one, I use http://www.amazon.com/.
7. Going to the theater. I love going to the theater but unfortunately with toddler at home and limited child care options, we don't go as much as I'd like. When we do go, however, we use our "Five Buck Club" card. It's so easy and so wonderful and FREE! Just go to their website, sign up for the card FOR FREE and you can use it to see almost any movie for $5 at your local theater! (assuming that there are one of their theaters in your area.) Also, we go the matinees so if the movie isn't a FBC one we still see it at a cheaper rate than at night! (usually about $3 less!)

Ok, so my mind is totally drawing a blank. I can't think of THREE more things!! Help! What do YOU never pay full price for??

  2. I've never heard of the Five Buck Club. One of the reasons I don't like to go to the movies is because of the price so I will definitely try this out! Thanks for the great info!

  4. We rarely pay full price for dinner now. If we go out, then we go somewhere kids can eat free or that we have a coupon for. There's so many kids eat free places now & that definitely saves alot! Great list!!

  5. We never pay full price for toiletries, in fact, I try to "get paid" to buy toiletries as often as possible. Couponing and matching up with sales at stores has saved me a TON of money in this area, and has allowed me to create a surplus to giveaway to others.

  7. Alas, no Five Buck Club theatres in our area - but thanks for sharing, that's a cool resource! Let's see...we never pay full price for a hotel room. We usually only stay when my husband has enough points built up from work travel to get us free rooms. I don't think we've paid for a hotel room in AGES. :)

  8. Good tips! We don't buy brand name items at the grocery store and I am always looking for sales. And I only use coupons IF it is something we need. I am going to check the Five Buck Club and the Swaptree sites, thanks.

  10. Great tips! I also use Freecycle and Craigslist. Unfortunately, we have been paying full price for most stuff...hence our debt and doing Financial Peace U!! However, I've recently started really trying to buy generic and store brand and really shop sales etc. I love the library and get rarely buy books. I'm amazed at the amount of people who don't go to the library hardly ever! I'll have to check out the Five Buck club (or whatever it was called!) I'm going to guess we don't have those here in Taxachussetts or else I'd probably have heard about it already. But it doesn't hurt to check! and the swapping site. My problem is I hate having to mail stuff...

Great list! I really enjoyed it!
